Infineon and MediaTek Launch Innovative Smart Cockpit Solutions

The digital cockpit has become a trend in the automotive industry, where buttons and controls on the dashboard will be replaced by advanced displays. As one of the key systems in an automobile, the digital cockpit system needs to provide high performance functionality to the automobile user while meeting functional safety objectives.
The traditional approach to achieving these goals has been to run digital cockpit systems on high-performance system-on-chips (SoCs) with hypervisors. However, the upfront investment required to get started with such a system is in the seven-figure range, and the total cost is further increased by license fees for the operating system and hypervisor. As a result, the system is economically unattractive for low- and mid-range models.
Infineon Technologies AG, the global semiconductor leader in power systems and IoT, together with MediaTek and its design partners, have developed an easy-to-use cockpit solution based on Infineon's TRAVEO™ CYT4DN MCU family and MediaTek's Dimensity Auto SoC entry-level solution that reduces the hardware and software's system total bill of materials (BOM) cost.
In this easy-to-use cockpit solution, the Infineon CYT4DN MCU acts as a safety adjunct to the SoC and meets the requirements of the ASIL-B functional safety level for automotive cockpits. The TRAVEO™ MCU monitors the content presented by the SoC and takes over in the event of an error, but with reduced functionality. In addition, it provides normal auxiliary functions, such as communication with the in-vehicle network.
